]]> मोर हा पक्षी खूपच सुंदर आणि आकर्षक असतो. मोर बघितल्यावर होणारा आनंद काही वेगळाच असतो. हा एक कुक्कुटवर्गीय पक्षी आहे. भारताच्या राष्ट्रीय पक्षाचा दर्जा मोराला मिळालेला आहे. संयमी आणि एकांतवास पसंद करणारा हा पक्षी प्रत्येक कवी मनाचे आकर्षण ठरला आहे. मोरावरून अनेक कविता तसेच चित्रपट गाणी तयार झाली आहेत ज्यामुळे या पक्षाला एक संगीतमय आकर्षण देखील प्राप्त झाले आहे. त्याने पिसारा फुलवल्यावर तर अनेक डोळे विस्फारून राहतात. मोराला इंग्रजी भाषेत पिकॉक (peacock) म्हणतात.

मोरपंख भारतात नेहमीच वंदनीय आहे. असा एकही व्यक्ती नसेल ज्याला मोरपंख आवडत नाहीत. अनेक रंगाचे वैविध्यपूर्ण मिश्रण मोरपंखात आढळते. मोर हा स्वतःचा पिसारा फुलवून विशेषकरून पावसात नाचतो. अनेक निसर्गप्रेमी हे विहंगम दृश्य बघण्यासाठी आतुरलेले असतात. विणीच्या हंगामात मोर नराला पूर्ण पिसारा आलेला असतो. त्या काळानंतर त्याचा पिसारा झडून जातो. विणीचा हंगाम हा मे – जुन महिन्यात असतो. मोर मादीला लांडोर असे म्हणतात. तिला पिसारा नसतो.

आकर्षक अशा निळ्या – जांभळ्या – करड्या रंगाचा हा पक्षी रानावनात आणि जंगलात आढळतो. रानावनात भटकणाऱ्या लोकांना नेहमीच मोरपंख सापडतात. कुठलाही प्राणी किंवा माणूस दिसल्यावर मोर लगेच पळ काढतात. त्यांच्या म्यूहू.. म्युहू.. आवाजामुळे संपूर्ण परिसरात उत्साह संचारतो. मोराचे डोळे आणि त्याचा तुरादेखील आकर्षक असतो.

भारतात मोर घरी सांभाळण्यासाठी कायद्याने परवानगी काढावी लागते. मोराला जर नियमित खायला दिले तर तो तुमच्या घरापासून कुठेच जाणार नाही. परंतु त्याचा आकार आणि त्याच्या सवयी ह्या माणूस हाताळू शकत नाही. तो जलद पळू शकतो. त्याला नियंत्रित करणे अवघड आहे. त्यामुळे जर एखादी मोठी जागा असेल तिथे त्याला तुम्ही खुले सोडू शकता. मोरापासून मानवी जीवनात काही उपयोग होत नसल्याने शक्यतो त्याला पाळले जात नाही.

मोराला नेहमीच बहुरंगी आयुष्याचे आणि आनंदाचे प्रतीक मानले गेले आहे. त्याचा सांस्कृतिक वारसा देखील पाहायला मिळतो. भगवान श्रीकृष्ण स्वतः मोरपंख धारण करून असतात. सरस्वती देवी आणि कार्तिकेय यांचे वाहन हे मोर आहे. महाराष्ट्राची संस्कृती परिधान करणे म्हणजे स्त्रियांनी पैठणी नेसणे. या पैठणीवर देखील मोरांचीच नक्षी असते.

लहानपणी सर्वजण एकदातरी मोराचे चित्र रेखाटतात. मोराचे खाद्य हे झाडाची पाने, फळे, किडे, साप, लहान कीटक असे आहे. मोराच्या आवाजाला केकारव असे म्हणतात. मोर पानझडी रानावनात राहतात तसेच रात्री झोपण्यासाठी झाडांवर जातात. मोर हा उंच मानेचा, सुंदर पिसाऱ्याचा, डौलदार चालीचा असा एक सुंदर पक्षी आहे.
